Social Vocational Rehabilitation

Social Vocational Rehabilitation is the coordination of services to help the client return to work or school in their pre-accident or pre-incident position or to provide support with the goal of returning to a position that is as similar as possible.


Our team of Rehabilitation Counsellors work with the injured individual to implement plans aimed at improved quality of life and reintegration into work, home, school and the community by conducting task analyses to determine physical and cognitive demands to determine and implement necessary accommodations and compensatory strategies in order to provide community-based life skills, family, social, financial and educational vocational rehabilitation counselling.

Initial Vocational Assessment

Allows the vocational rehabilitation consultant to assess the injured client's ability to return to work within their potential, to review any limitations as well as provide information for required medical treatment and return to work accommodation. The Initial Vocational Assessment will help to establish objectives for rehabilitation and return to work plans.


Functional Abilities Evaluation 

A Functional Abilities Evaluation is a specific assessment to help identify a client’s physical work tolerances. Following thorough assessments and measurements, the vocational rehabilitation consultant determines physical impairments and/or abilities that exist. By understanding the limitations and restrictions that affect return to work or pre accident status, this measure can help to determine the amount of rehabilitation required and facilitate a timely return to work. Our FAE's can take up to 3-4 hours, and include: a detailed medical history and present complaints review, an objective clinical assessment (range of motion, strength, endurance, orthopedic and neuromuscular testing) and functional testing (aerobic capacity, positional tolerances, lifting and carrying, reaching, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, hand use, and other work simulated tasks). Results are then compared to population norms.


Physical Demands Analysis

A Physical Demands Analysis is utilized to quantify and evaluate the exact physical, functional and environmental demands of a given task or job. The physical demands analysis involves examining examines the individual tasks of a specific job type and the physical demands each of those tasks requires. Job tasks are analyzed by duration, amount and types of forces, weights, postures, environmental hazards, work aids, and equipment used.


Return to Work Plan 

The priority is to return the client to the position he or she held prior to the absence. In this way, the y can return to his or her routines, workplace and co-workers. If this is not possible, however, other alternatives, in order of desirability, are to return the employee to: a modified job in the same workplace; a different job in the same workplace; a similar job in a different workplace; or a different job in a different workplace. Return-to-work plans are intended to be transitional and have a fixed duration. Permanent actions are defined as accommodation.
